Things are pretty much the same down there, except more so. A literalist church on every corner. Bible bookstores in every mall. Piles of the infamous Left Behind series of novels in every mart. When I was growing up, we saw little makeshift signs tacked to trees along the highways that said "Jesus is coming soon." Those signs are now replaced by huge glossy billboards.
