The string of successes continues. Today the
European Space Agency's Huygens probe, after hitching a ride with
Cassini for the past seven years, successfully touched down onto the surface of Titan. This is the first time we have made a landing on a body in the Outer Solar System.
The first few raw images have been returned including
this view of the probe's final resting place.
Other
photos taken during descent show the surface of Titan beneath the enshrouding clouds. Channels made by flowing liquid are visible as well as a possible coastline.
Yow!
